The Hurt Arms Ambergate – Derbyshire wedding venue

I had the pleasure recently of visiting the newly refurbished Hurt Arms at Ambergate near Belper in Derbyshire’s beautiful Amber Valley.
For couples in search of an intimate, yet unpretentious wedding venue in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside that enjoys good transport links, The Hurt Arms merits your consideration.
Easily accessible by road and rail
The venue’s Tollgate Suite has been created to accommodate weddings, civil ceremonies, wedding breakfasts and wedding receptions for up to 50 guests.
Industrial chic meets the rolling Derbyshire countryside along the A6 at Ambergate. This roadside country pub and wedding venue boasts stunning views across the river Derwent whilst enjoying the benefits of easy access by both road and rail.
In fact, Ambergate railway station is located just across the road on the other side of the A6 opposite The Hurt Arms. The venue is situated on the doorstep of market town, Belper – well known locally for its fabulous farmers’ markets - and about half way between Derby and Chesterfield.
Industrial chic
The recent refurbishment has created the Tollgate Suite with its exposed, spalled brickwork and aluminium conduits, which result in a surprisingly warm ambience.
Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors flood the room with natural light and, in good weather, can be opened to allow guests to enjoy the raised private patio with partially-covered outdoor seating area.
The venue’s garden and local parkland and countryside are accessible beyond this point and are ideal locations for your wedding photographs.
So, what will your wedding look like?
Well, you don’t have to spend too much time trying to imagine what your perfect day will look like at The Hurt Arms.
A number of local Derbyshire wedding suppliers, including Balloon Artworks, came together to put the aesthetics of this newly refurbished country wedding venue to the test for a wedding photo shoot and wedding showcase evening.
So, if like many couples facing what seems like a million choices, a wedding showcase is a great and informal way to garner ideas and help you visualize what your wedding day could look like, particularly if you’re booking a new or recently refurbished wedding venue.

We think the combined talents of some of Derbyshire’s finest wedding suppliers has resulted in a charming showcase with rustic touches and the use of different textures to soften the edginess of some of the more industrial elements of the venue’s décor.
This showcase really does demonstrate how the sympathetic combination of décor accessories, like balloons, lace and burlap can work in harmony with the venue décor to create a very pleasing effect.
Our local wedding suppliers included:
Balloon decor by Melanie Allen CBA of Balloon Artworks in Ripley.
Wedding dresses and beautiful bridal wear by Gracie Bleu Bridal of Matlock as well as formal wear for grooms.
Wedding photography by well-known local photographer, Field Photographic Portrait Studio in Heanor.
Wedding hair and wedding make-up by Saskia Borra of Beau Hair Bridal Hair.
Wedding flowers by Margaret's Florist.
Venue dressing and wedding accessories by Little Miss Hubbard's bridal accessories in Matlock.
